Three words for you: Treat Yo Self. I’m so excited to share this post with you all! The ideas for this party have “literally” been years in the making. Last weekend, Graham and I hosted a Treat Yo Self 2017 Parks and Rec party! Graham and I love this show so much. I’m pretty sure he has seen it all the way through at least eight times.
In case you aren’t familiar with Parks and Rec, the final season aired in 2015, but it was set in 2017. In Season 7, Episode 6 Donna and Tom revamp their favorite tradition that they call Treat Yo Self. We knew we had to throw a party before the end of 2017 to celebrate all things Parks and Rec. Read on to see a few of our favorite elements from the party!
When we were brainstorming potential menu items, several things came to mind. We thought of calzones, chicky-chicky-parm-parm, a burger cook-off, and more. In the end, we landed on breakfast for dinner, because in the words of Leslie Knope, “why would anybody ever eat anything besides breakfast food?”
We created a waffle bar in honor of JJ’s Diner, complete with several toppings to choose from. Sadly, the waffles got eaten up before I could take a photo 🙁
We also cooked “all the bacon and eggs” we had. I’m talking three pounds of black pepper bacon. I feel like that has to make Ron Swanson proud.
A few extra food details:
“Most people would say ‘the deets,’ but I say ‘the tails.’ Just another example of innovation.” -Tom Haverford and also me.
I dressed up our dining room photo ledge with Parks and Rec themed items.
Whenever I host a party, I always like to think of a few interactive things for guests to do. In our living room, we (obviously) had episodes of Parks and Rec streaming on Netflix. I created themed bingo cards for guests to play as they watched using this generator. I also found an amazing blog that created a Guess Who template for Parks and Rec characters! This couple also has templates for Gilmore Girls, Harry Potter, and The Office, so you should definitely check them out!
Note: I tried to convince Graham to let me rent a Lil’ Sebastian impersonator and turn our backyard into a replica Pawnee Harvest Festival. Sadly this did not happen.
Last but certainly not least, we encouraged our guests to wear costumes! I want to share a few of the characters that showed up.
If you’re as Parks and Rec crazy as we are, I hope you enjoyed this post! And don’t worry, my days of Parks and Rec themed parties aren’t over! One of these days I’m going to throw a killer Galentine’s Day! What is your favorite Parks and Rec moment?
